Rice dumpling “zongzi” 粽子

Rice dumpling “zongzi” 粽子

Dragon Boat Festival is coming! The boat races and rice dumplings are traditional actives to commemorates the death of poet Qu Yuan ( Chinese : 屈原 ) . Qu Yuan committed suicide by drowning himself in the river because the king doesn’t believe him. People don’t want these fish eat him, so throw a lot of rice dumpling “zongzi” and boat races to make the fish leave him alone.
“Zongzi” have sweet and savory two types. The savory is made of glutinous rice, beans, pork and egg yolk stuffed with different fillings and wrapped in bamboo. And the sweet one includes glutinous rice and red bean paste, usually we will put some sugar on top when we eat.

Ingredients :
500g Glutinous rice
250g Belly pork
250g Split mung beans

Seasoning
2 teaspoons Salt
2 tablespoons Cooking oil
1/4 teaspoon Pepper
2 teaspoons Sugar
1 tablespoon Five-spice powder

Wrapping
1 bundle Bamboo leaves
1 bundle Straws

How to cook: Put all the fillings in the bamboo and wrapped with straw, put it in the water and boil for 6 hours.

My favor is savory, I like pork and rice with the smell of bamboo, yummy. But it is quite heavy, don’t eat too much even you like it.^^
