inHK Magazine Oct 2012 issue – Hong Kong Vegetarians

Hong Kong Vegetarians is popular in recent years, some considered the healthy option and some because they believe in Buddhism. And some people not are the Vegetarians, but they will abstain from meat on the on the first day and the 15th of each lunar month and the first day of Chinese New Year. Not only to purify and cleanse out the body, but also it honors a Buddhist tradition that nothing living should be killed on the first day.

A traditional Buddhist vegetarian dish called "Jai" (Traditional Chinese:). For dim sum, I suggest steamed rice roll with mixed vegetable and shredded turnip puff. Both of them are the traditional dim sum, but cook it with vegetarian instead of meat. Steamed rice roll is silky smooth and extremely thin, it is one of the favorite breakfast in Hong Kong.

For main course, I suggest steamed assorted vegetables topped with supreme broth and spicy vegetable and photo curry. Both of them are delicious and easy to cook, it is easy to buy the ingredients in supermarket and cook it by yourself. Lots of Hong Kong family will cook this dishes for dinner.
For dessert, I suggest osmanthus and water chestnut roll. Osmanthus is the 'city flower' of Hangzhou, China. It is the popular dessert ingredients in China. Osmanthus can gives this dessert it unique fragrant and taste.
